"Desert Day"
Today was their desert ride. Their plan was to complete all 88 miles before noon, with the support van alongside them the entire trip, ready with extra water and cooling if they needed it. Sounds like all went well! Oh, and only 2 DAYS LEFT!
countdown begins - 3 days to go!
The OG Nico fan club has made it to San Diego. We'll distract ourselves with the local sights as much as possible for the next few days, awaiting his arrival. The excitement is getting real!

last rest day is the best rest day?
"Excited, but a little sad" is how Nico described his feelings about this final rest day. He said the journey has flown by and it doesn't feel like they've been biking for 5 weeks. Yesterday's ride into Phoenix was his favorite of the entire trip so far - beautiful sunrise behind the mountains, 6% s...

Happy Birthday, Nico!
Our man is living it up in Socorro, NM today. Or at least "resting it up"! We were so excited to chat with him this afternoon. It was a spotty connection, so not the easiest conversation (a lot of, can you hear me now? ), but the gist is - he's great, feeling good, enjoying the journey and their clo...
HUGE climb today
Per Google maps, looks liked they climbed a whopping 7,789ft today, and descended 8,625. Luckily, it's rest day tomorrow!

day 1- β
Only the 2 leaders have phones, so we have to wait until rest days to get a call from Nico (about once a week). However, Apogee posts a daily update on their blog, which we'll copy to this site each evening. Today's Apogee post:
AND THEY ARE OFF!!
After many months of training, today's the day! The highlights: 10am - huge pancake breakfast noon - Eric dropped Nico at the Charleston airport to meet his fellow bikers. Once everyone arrived, they all jumped in a bus to head to Folly Beach, SC. During the bus ride, the trip leaders did the intro...
it takes a lot of gear
The road trip begins... not sure if Nico's more excited to get to Charleston to start biking, or their 2 golfing stops along the way.
