After many months of training, today's the day!

The highlights:

10am - huge pancake breakfast

noon - Eric dropped Nico at the Charleston airport to meet his fellow bikers. Once everyone arrived, they all jumped in a bus to head to Folly Beach, SC.  During the bus ride, the trip leaders did the introductions and safety talks

2:45pm - the group arrived at the beach and did a final equipment check (Eric drove there separately to see them off). Rain and 27mph tropical storm winds made it an extra memorable start.

4pm, they ceremoniously dipped their wheel in the Atlantic and then took off toward the Pacific (gulp).
